From time to time we take an order where for one reason or another we have to put it aside for a few days. For instance if we're waiting for a customer to get back to us about some issue with their address or stock levels etc.
After a few days this order obviously moves down the list as new orders come in and it would be useful to place a reminder in admin so it never gets forgotten. Perhaps a 'Pending Orders' in between 'View Orders' and 'Gift Certificates' in a different colour? Or otherwise somewhere else on the main admin page. And of course somewhere in the order detail to assign it to that.
We created a status named "Review" We toss these orders in that status until they are ready to move forward. It's easy to locate orders by status, so they are easy to stay on top of.
That’s a good idea David but I still think it would be quite easy to forget about an order unless you actively remember to search for ‘Review’
As an example, we currently have a customer that has paid for an order where we don’t have sufficient stock. We have contacted them and they are happy to wait until stock arrives even though this could be several weeks. We also have enquiries out to customers regarding incorrect addresses and can’t dispatch until they get in contact.
I just think a visual reminder on the front page of admin of the number of pending orders that still need dealing with would be extremely useful.
I understand what your saying Steve. We use the review status for the exact things you mention. We just process a lot of orders (at least when there is no pandemic) and we know to always check review status throughout the day. We add private notes so anyone can see why it's in review.
