Hi, I followed the ECT free shipping tutorial and setup free shipping on orders over $50. I see the free shipping applies in red
text but still am seeing Shipping fees in cart. I must be missing some piece... any ideas?

Thanks again...

Did you go into Countries and States and indicate which ones the free shipping applies to?
You will also need to do the same with the shipping choices. You must select the services that you want the free shipping to apply to.

Do you do both of those?

hey David, got it I think, this can be rather confusing, hard to figure out if your're going to make
profits if your doing free shipping.... think I need to do figuring out..:)

I have been struggling with Free Shipping for years. I has always been intermittent. For several years it worked most of the time, but sometimes not. Lately it has not been working most of the time, and sometimes it does.

I had 3 customers email me this week to ask why they didn't receive the free shipping as advertised. As a result they all unfortunately left the shopping cart.

I have had Free Shipping set up for years as a Discount, with a minimum purchase amount. On the first cart page, the shipping estimator either shows "Free" (if the customer meets the minimum) or it shows an error message "there are no shipping options..." However once you get to the shipper selection page, the free shipping doesn't show at all.

I have FSA checked off on First Class and Priority Mail (Domestic). On the Discount, "Yes, restrict to certain countries" is selected. In my shipping Countries, United States is checked as "Free Shipping Applies".

These settings have not changed in at least 5 years. It seemed to work about 90% of the time. Nowadays however it seems to be working about 10% of the time.

Is there something I'm missing?

Hi 1234
Sometimes Free Shipping is a bit tricky to set up if restricting by region as you need to set the regions that apply etc, but it's not a part of the cart that has ever been "buggy" so I would imagine there is a logical solution to this. So why not send me an email with the details of these orders and the FTP login details and I'll try to recreate the situation to see what the problem is.

Vince,

I sent you an email. Thanks for having a look. I just tested the site again and on just a $50 order, I am receiving the "There are no methods available for your shipping destination" message on the first cart page. Although now when I place $150+ in the cart, the free shipping shows.

We've done this a few times I believe, but neither of us have been able to find the culprit. It is probably something simple that I am missing.

There's a wrench in there somewhere, hopefully we can find it this go-round.

let me know if you need any additional info...

Just to note - I am receiving the "There are no methods available for your shipping destination" each time I go to checkout now.

Also I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this situation, but sometimes when I click from the cart page to the home page, all of the shopping cart contents disappear. It doesn't happen every time, but it has happened several times today as I was testing the cart.

Are all your URLs set the same, e.g. https://www.yoursite.com and you are not mixing http and https or www and non www pages? This will have an effect on the cookies that keep track of the cart contents.

All pages are https.

Checking the site again this morning, am receiving a new message "An unexpected system error has occurred. Please try again later or contact the System Administrator." on the cart page.

I normally have 5-10 sales on weekends but this weekend I haven't received any sales. I feel it may be because of this error message on the first cart page in red that are steering people away.

I haven't made any changes to anything shipping. I went through and made sure all FSA boxes were checked, zones were defined, states, countries, etc but all seems well.

I will go through again to make sure everything is as it should be, but not sure where to go from here really.

Sorry for so many posts, but just received a new error message altogether so I thought I should post that here for reference.

"There seems to be a problem connecting to the shipping rates server. Please wait a few moments and refresh your browser, or try a different shipping carrier.
Error, couldn't connect to http://production.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll (-2147012894).
The operation timed out"

This error seems to be associated with the USPS shipping estimator. I disabled USPS temporarily and the error has cleared for now. I would very much like to get that working again but I'm not sure who to contact on that. I can't find a way to contact USPS via https://registration.shippingapis.com/

Has anyone else had an issue with the USPS api? If so, how'd ya fix it?

I placed a support ticket in with USPS. Meanwhile I found documentation of upcoming updates to the USPS Web Tools API. I'm not positive if this is what is creating the error messages on my cart page from the Shipping Estimator. However it is the only thing that seems to make sense at the moment.

"Effective September 27, 2020, ... Web Tools will BLOCK any traffic requests not using TLS 1.2 or above"

Testing for this new rule started 6/7/20, which is when I started receiving the error messages. This and more information can be found here: https://www.usps.com/business/web-tools-apis/documentation-updates.htm

You can test your website host to see what version(s) of TLS you are using.

Thanks Patrick!

The test shows TLS 1.2 (and an A overall rating )

Hopefully I will hear back from USPS Web Tools support soon.

Aside from the USPS Web api not currently working, I'm still having the problem of the Free Shipping not working. I just tried a purchase of $194.45 and the free shipping didn't show. I don't know how to place a screenshot on here, but here are the totals of the sample purchase. I have a store-wide Discount for Free Shipping on orders of $150 or more.

Sub Total
$194.45
Shipping Estimate
$22.10
Discounts Apply !
$11.67
Grand Total
$204.88

Still scratching my head on that one.

Hi Tim
USPS seems to be working fine on your site now so whatever the problem was, it was a temporary one. It may have been the USPS server but as nobody else seems to have experienced it, more likely it was specific to your server.
I tried putting enough items in the cart for the free shipping discounts and it seemed to all work just fine for USPS and UPS. FedEx doesn't give free shipping because there are no shipping methods which have Free Shipping (FSA) checked.
But can you maybe put the items in the cart and go through to the last checkout page (to create the order) and then let me know. That way I can see exactly what items it is causing this problem.

Thanks Vince,

I was finally able to reach USPS tech support about the api. Apparently they were able to fix that issue and hopefully it will stay fixed.

I deleted the free shipping discount as it just wasn't working at all anymore. I created an exact replica of the discount and so far it seems to be working (this morning). I wish I would have saved some of the sample purchases from yesterday where the free shipping wasn't being applied, so you could look at them in my admin. But I deleted them before I went to bed last night.

I will let you know if/when it happens again. I will be testing it throughout the day.

Thanks again for the help!

Ok, if it happens again then like I say, let me know the order ID of the order that should have been getting free shipping.
