https://PetticoatParlor.com is using PayPal.com as their payment provider. Orders are recorded and payments are received as they should be. However when PayPal redirects back to PetticoatParlor.com thanks.asp displays two messages.
First: We are just waiting for confirmation of the status of your payment. Please be patient for just a few moments.
Then: There was a timeout waiting for confirmation from the payment server. Please contact our customer service email for details about the status of your order.
I've run https://petticoatparlor.com/vsadmin/ppconfirm.asp?ppdebug=true and it returns:
Testing URL: https://ipnpb.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr Result : INVALID This is a good/correct result as it shows that communication with the PayPal server was successful and the transaction was of course rejected as invalid.

Just today, we are getting Paypal orders with noipn returned. This is going to be a Paypal issue and usually goes back to normal after a while.
So if this is just here in the last few hours, then that's likely the culprit.

This has been an issue for a long time, since this site started.
Apparently it errors before sending the order confirmation because the order notification emails are not received. PayPal sends an email, so they've just gone with that.
Her shopping cart traffic has gone way up lately, and with it the number of people who question the error and if their orders were received.
Hoping to fix it once and for all. If it's a PayPal setting, any ideas where to look would be great.

I just received an order via PayPal that showed as "Unauthorized" (with no IPN). Then I received a "Notification of Payment Received" email from PayPal for the order. Checking the order in PayPal, it appears the customer had modified their cart. The sale showed up as "unauthorized" for a total of $60.74 in my admin. However in PayPal the order shows as "authorized" but the amount is $44.44.
Luckily I was able to catch the error. However this could have been costly if it were a much larger order/amount.
Hopefully the problem will fix itself as dbdave suggests. If not, I may need some advice on this one.

While the order is in Unauthorized, the customer can make changes. So, in the time that paypal does not respond, bad things can happen.
It's definitely a paypal issue today, but it sounds like KevinRobson, needs to go back through the setup to get the callback working. Of course it's broken right now, so that's a problem too.
