I am finding the image manager takes a long time to complete and perhaps I am not understanding the best methods to completing this form.
I see in image manager column headings Small Image, Large Image and Giant image. So in image height I will set eg Small Image = 300 Large Image = 600 Giant Image = 750
Should the images when created be renamed? eg img1234_small.jpg img1234_large.jpg img1234_giant.jpg
In the Image Manager the first colum produces a choice Dont resize Image Or resize height or width. Pretty clear.
The Large column has 2 choice boxes. The lower select box seems to be asking for the small image choices again.
The giant column has choice boxes for the Small and Large. So is it meant that the Giant column creates all three image sizes?
I hope I have asked my question in a clear manner. Thanks for any help.
John

Hi John I have always named my images for SEO purposes, eg; black-range-rover-vogue-se.jpg & I always explain to my clients to do the same. I never put up generic image names. Before I upload I prep the images so that the actual file size is as small as possible but still good. tinyjpg.com does a decent job The ECT sites I manage, bar three, all have the MagicZoom for their images on the sites, worth every penny & makes a sites images look great. In your product admin click on the large Image Manager button which brings up a screen with three fields - Small, Large & Giant. Ignore the Small & Large but do click on the Giant Image and the following screen should appear. These are the settings for one of the sites I manage. Doing it that way only requires one action. The images on the site(s) always look good! Steve Egerton Village, Bolton, UK

Hello Steve,
Just the sort of information I need at this stage with my first EC site especially the Image Manager part. I am concerned that my client will find this too time consuming. At the moment he has a image manager which takes one large image and will reproduce multiple images as required. Very quick.
I will use magic zoom when I get a bit further along the path.
Many thanks John

Hi John quote: I am concerned that my client will find this too time consuming.
In the method I posted you only use one image to upload, that's the Giant Image field, the image manager populates the other two fields - job done! Steve Egerton Village, Bolton, UK

Hello Steve I followed your advise on the image upload method and it certainly is much faster.
However for some reason when I look in the image manager after submitting I can see only one image that has filled in the tree columns, the last one I placed.
There should be four variations, front back side detail.
One box that I have not selected is the Static Page or Static URL, not sure what this does.
Cheers
John

Hi John I can't see the image in your last post The other variants would go in the other boxes as such. Regarding the Static Page / URL; You would only check the Has Static Page box if you have set up a static product detail page. The product detail page link will take the form of the_product_name.php where the page name will be made of the product name, in lower case with spaces replaced by underscores and non alphanumeric characters removed. You will need to set up the static page previously following our help page on search engine friendly features. Steve Egerton Village, Bolton, UK

As I understand how the Image Manger to operate, I have never populated that Small Image field, only the image fields as shown in the Image Manager in my graphic. I am not sure that Small Image field does anything when using the Image Manager
I dare say Vince could throw some light on this when he's available

Hi John,
That should do the trick!
As a side note, the actual horizontal dimension of the images I use are 999px to 1100px, & I find that great for clarity & depth when viewing images on an ECT site using the MagicZoomPlus

Regarding your email, John, that you are still having problems. I had a look at the site and everything seems to check out fine. I uploaded a new image and the new images were created and uploaded fine, and the smaller image names populated. Looking at your example there (http://net100test.co.uk/image-upload-method used.jpg) I think I see where you are possibly having problems. If you select the image to upload, the first row is for the actual image uploaded which will be the Giant Image. You have chosen to resize this to 999px The second row is for the small sized image which you can resize by width or height. (The aspect ratio is maintained so you only have to specify one.) The third row is for the large image which you can resize by width or height. Once uploaded the names of the small and large images will have the suffixes added, and the giant image will just have the original name. As no suffix is added for the giant image there is no option to specify the suffix in the uploader. So you were saying your client's current system allows to upload all 3 images in one action as so does this system. I think you were looking at it as if all the fields had to be filled to specify one image. quote: I am not sure that Small Image field does anything when using the Image Manager
This is correct, when using the image manager the small image field is greyed out. Vince Click Here for Shopping Cart SoftwareClick Here to sign up for our newsletterClick Here for the latest updater

Just to update where I was going wrong. On the page to Modify a Product I was clicking on the Giant Image Selection Icon.
I should have selected the Image Manager where the list appears then selected the Giant Image Manager for each line required.
Thanks for all the valuable help.
