We do not offer free shipping; however, suddenly multiple orders are getting processed without any shipping charges applied.

What shipping method(s) do you have setup on your store?
Can you check those products to be sure a weight is set and they are not flagged as shipping exempt?

Upon further investigation it only happened on USPS First Class International to Australia. I checked to make that no free shipping was allowed both by shipping method and by country. Yesterday I tried a few tests and on each the shipping computed "$0.00" but when I tested with another country it computed properly. On May 21 orders placed to ship to Australia with the First Class International method properly computed the charge, then on May 23 the proper pricing did not compute. It's as if the USPS sent back $0.00". When I test today, it is sending back a valid price. Could it be timing out communicating with USPS?

Hi, if there is a timeout, then the user should not be able to make a selection at all.
The communication coming back to your store from USPS actually determines what shipping options are shown (that you allow in your admin).

The zero rate suggests some other problem.

Can you tell me what version of the shopping cart you're on?

We are currently on version 7.3.0

Was this a single product, or did you test with different products?

The URLs have changed since v7.3.0 as USPS are now insisting on an HTTPS connection, so it may be worth updating to the current v7.3.3.
