Hi,

Google page speed insights is complaining that the thumbnails I use in magiczoom are simply resized on-the-fly versions of the giant image, which they are.
In my includes.php I have thumbnail size set to 100px width. For example:

I wonder if I do not have this quite set up correctly.

Is there a way to achieve the above look, but with actual 100px width thumnails?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve
The thing about the thumbnails is that when you click on one you would like the giant image to load right away and having the thumbnails as resized giant images means you can do this. The alternative is to click on the thumbnail and then the customer is waiting while it downloads.

Hi Vince,

I can see your point. Some of my pages though, with lots of images get low page speed results for mobile in particular and this is potentially having an impact on seo.
All my images are optimised using TinyPNG so not much more I can do there. I also tested using a cdn which made a minimal difference.

Is there perhaps a way thumbnails could be the correct size and giant images are lazy loaded or similar?

The instructions for Magic Zoom on ECT say:
in your store control panel add the images to the Large Image and Giant Image fields that you want to show on the product detail page
For this to work for this google page speed problem, would there be a way to rework this somehow for Magic Zoom and make ‘Large’ a correct sized thumbnail and ‘Giant’ a full size image?

Steve
