Hi
my website keeps shutting down
the server engineers say it is activating the application pool
they say the codes need amending and they feel it is due to memory leakage
can that be looked at

When you say your website is "shutting down", exactly what is happening? Being that no one is reporting this issue, it's more likely something else. A dynamic database driven website "must" use an application pool, so this just makes your "server engineers" look like they are not really server engineers if they do not understand the need for an application pool.
What host is this?
Thanks, David

As the dedicated application pool is assigned to the site and if your site is crashing many times then you need to check the code with your developer. We can only restart the pool to get the site working back. this is what they said

Hi Ian to help Vince trouble shoot the issue would you be able to provide the following information. Shopping cart software version? Type of Database Access or SQL? IIS Version? Memory allotted to your web-space? Winners never quit, quitters never win CSS and Responsive DesignsUser Manual for Ecommerce Templates

If the site is using access database you can try doing a compact and repair which will help streamline the database for better performance https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/troubleshooting.asp#asp10 and a good idea to do periodically anyway. Hi Ian IIS 8 is getting very long in the tooth now and is reaching its end of life. So maybe getting them to put you on an IIS 10 setup would be the way to go with this. Apart from being ready for the future you'll probably find that this problem just goes away. Application pool recycling isn't a problem with the cart, even with IIS 8, and these things generally come down to server problems. But I'm just trying to find a way to kind of skirt round the issue as it can be very hard to solve unless your host is willing to get involved.
