Since the client updated their website, in the email they receive via Ask a Question they are seeing the below. The result is the same on their iPhone & when they view on computer using Thunderbird email client. Their email client settings are set to view normal & not all headers - any ideas?

I didn't ask which version they updated to but I am guessing it will be 7.4.8. If need be I can check with them this evening. UPDATE The following screenshot is from their Apple Mail client on an iPhone 11 Pro Max IOS 15.3.1

Hi Steve
So do you mean the entities not displaying properly in the Email Subject? Could it just be down to the fact that some email clients will display the entities as expected and some will "escape" them? If that is the case, would it not be the idea to just not use HTML Entities in the subject?

Good evening Vince

I don't think the entities have ever shown in the email subject line, just text like Ask at question at our store.

Prior to the clients site update - the update they have applied is the 7.5, & site works fine - the subject line appeared as in the screenshot below on the 12th Sept '21. On that date the ECT version was 7.3.4. That screenshot is from my own Android handset on my test site now running v 7.4.7, & the email client I have used for donkeys years is a fully paid version of AquaMail. As can be seen I am also seeing the entities with non breaking space.

So I can state that we are seeing that difference on AquaMail, Thunderbird & Apple Mail client on an iPhone 11 Pro Max IOS 15.3.1

In the admin of my test site & the clients site I have switched the email format setting between HTML Format Emails & Text Format Emails but that makes no difference.

Hi Steve and Vince, I encountered this issue.

Previously I used a Font Awesome Icon in the social media buttons for "Email Friend" and "Ask a Question". Steve, this has been done on your client's website. includes.php entries:

$GLOBALS['xxEmFrnd']='#xf086;& nbsp; Recommend to Friend';
$GLOBALS['xxAskQue']='#xf059;& nbsp; Ask a Question';

But the email messages sent after upgrading to PHP v7.4.7 are plain text. Thus the raw code appears in the Subject line; very messy

So I dumped the Font Awesome Icon idea and simply altered the includes.php entries:

$GLOBALS['xxEmFrnd']='Recommend to Friend';
$GLOBALS['xxAskQue']='Ask a Question';

I get you now and yes, that would cause a problem in the subject line but it sounds like you have a workaround now. But if you want the Font Awesome icon back in the Social Media then you could set the Ask a Question Subject parameter
$askaquestionsubject
There are replacements for the product id and customer name in the subject. More details here...
