Working under Windows 10, I want to use MS's Internet Information Services development tool to preview the physical appearance of the .asp pages (as opposed to testing the functioning of the database). The latest 64 and x86 versions can be downloaded free at

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48264

Attempting to preview, for example, about.asp opened in Dreamweaver presents this window:

"Update Copy on Testing Server? Yes/No"

Selecting Yes opens a new window:

"Should dependent files be included in the transfer? Yes/No"

Selecting either Yes or No opens the browser with the address

https://localhost/default.asp

but displays the dreaded "Unable to open page/Unable to connect" response.

Any idea what I'm dong wrong?

Hi Cartman
I do all my local development on a Windows server and what I do is create my development directory below the actual wwwroot directory. Then to test my pages all I have to do is go to the URL...
http://localhost/mydevdirectory/products.asp

This actually cuts out a step when you want to preview a page as you don't need to update anything. Would that work for you?

That's helpful for users who have Windows Server installed on their desktop PC but as a niche SME, I don't and have no need for it. Consequently, my hope is to deploy Microsoft's free IIS tool to localhost preview the appearance of ASPs via Dreamweaver.

Hi Cartman
I don't have Windows Server, just MS's free IIS tool. That's all you need to test pages locally.
