No USPS Rates Since 'Web Tools Endpoint' Email

Edited to add: after an outage of many hours, our Cart shows USPS rates again.

Between this and our vendor payment checks repeatedly disappearing in the mail, this seems just like another USPS snafu.

Can anyone confirm that we should be able to ignore those 'endpoint' warning emails if we're on v7.7.8 of the Cart?

There's another thread on this in the ASP forum but no details about any required fix:

https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=116136

===============

On 2025-02-03 we received what we assumed was a phishing email (below) - with punctuation errors and no personal salutation - purporting to warn about our USPS Web Tools endpoint.

Today, when we visited our site to check USPS rates we got the error "Please choose an alternate shipping method below or email us for help" while our non-USPS rates calculate normally.

We then looked back through our orders and found no USPS shipping purchased since 2025-01-15 - which suggests that the problem began after that date.

We're currently on the v7.7.8 PHP version of the Cart.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions to troubleshoot this.

Hello,

You are receiving this message because you have been identified as an integrator that is still utilizing a non-secure Web Tools endpoint (http://production.shippingapis.com/). Please use the Web Tools Secure Production endpoint (https://production.shippingapis.com/) to avoid any possible service disruptions

Thank You,

USPS API Functional Team

Hi Paul
I think there are intermittent problems connecting to the USPS server but I don't think it's to do with the endpoints as we use the HTTPS connection.

Thanks for that, Vince.

Like you said, it looks ~100% like a USPS issue, not a Cart issue.

The USPS is such a mess that we spend the money to courier our vendor payment checks now that several "disappeared".

We also had a sizeable IRS payment check stolen from the US mail, and cashed in a far-off location.

We stopped using USPS some weeks back.
We cannot get them to pick up our shipments regularly, despite have scheduled pickups.

The good news is it's possible to negotiate the UPS rates down to no residential fees added.
We are shipping small lightweight shipments across country, residential for under $8.00

Here in Texas the USPS pick-up times are frustratingly inconsistent, too.

Some days the USPS driver visits the facility at 10:00 AM instead of the expected 3:00 PM - adding a day of delay for those customers.

They literally drive up to our loading dock, see the number of packages waiting and just drive off.

We had a bunch of issues on Friday with no rates. Then a couple today.
