Using the cross sell feature to display recommended products on the home page has always been a winner with all my clients. They love the control and like the ability to feature new products when necessary from the product admin - as described here - https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/home-page-display.asp

Example here - https://www.cosplaymuch.com/

I've had a few clients ask if they can add recommended categories to the home page from the category admin with a simple 'recommended' checkbox to display the categories they wish to display.

If you feel this would be a beneficial feature I'd appreciate your feedback here please along with any other tweaks you can think of with regard to the display and functionality.

Tweaks
1. The widget will be one file and integration would just be a case of adding an include line - EG - <?php include "vsadmin/inc/inchomecategories.php" ?>
2. The ability to check multiple categories as recommended but limit the display to a set value, but to display all 'checked' recommended categories on a random basis
3. The ability to limit the category description character count to maintain the layout for responsive sites
4. The abilty to switch on or off the category header on the display or have it's own independant css for all the elements (reccatname, reccatimage, reccatdescription reccattitle)
5. The ability to display or switch on a horizontal scroll if you wish to display more than the page width will allow perhaps?

Feedback and suggestions would be appreciated!

Great idea.
For years we have had this in a static fashion, but it would be great to have control over it in the admin.

Some of our clients have asked about that feature this year as well, particularly our larger clientswho'd like to promote entire sections of product instead of one-at-a-time.

If anyone else reading this thread would like the feature and added flexibility, SPEAK UP AND BE HEARD! in order to help make it happen!!

I'd like to see this ability - specifically on WordPress sites.

I am moving several of my clients into WordPress and one of them has 21 main categories that they need featured on the home page. On their Dreamweaver site, I simply added that line where we wanted the categories to appear and they didn't have to think about it again - all new categories or changes to categories updated automatically. As of now, I'm going to have to create 21 different images with links for the home page for their categories and then make changes to them manually whenever a category gets updated or added.

Currently you have the ability to add products to the home page with a plugin - I'd love to see a plug in that would do the same thing for categories!

Hi All
Good suggestion and we've got something ready for this for the new updater.
