Hi All,

I have been using $uspsprioritycontainer="auto" for a long time, today I noticed the checkout estimator is giving a USPS Flat Rate Box price for items which are too large. It didn't used to do this.... any input would be appreciated.

Thank You!

Hi

I don't think there have been any changes on our end to USPS recently. Can you give us an example where it's not showing what you would expect?

Hi Andy

https://www.kartguy.net/proddetail.php?prod=BD-005

For example, this item is in our database at 40" x 12" x 7". It used to be if I selected "USPS Flat Rate Box" in the checkout estimator, it would return a message to the effect of "Shipping Not Available Via This Method". Now it is returning a rate of $19.60, even though the item can not fit in a Flat Rate Box.

Thanks,

Andy

Looking at your shipping estimator I see you have the methods listed there. I know you can change the display of USPS to something else but you have two USPS methods showing - how did you achieve that?

In Admin Main Settings I chose "Show alternate carriers in menu". I set the first alternate as U.S.P.S. Shipping and labelled it "USPS Flat Rate Box." I set the second alternate as Weight Based Shipping, labelled it "USPS First Class", and manually entered the First Class rates in to the Shipping Admin tables.

I understand now. Can you let me know which shipping methods you have enabled in the USPS admin page and the weight of the product you are testing with along with origin / destination zip codes and that way I can set up a test here?

For domestic the enabled USPS methods are: First Class Mail (label "First-Class Mail"), and Priority Mail (label "USPS Priority Mail").

For the item #BD-005 linked to above, the package dims are 40" x 12" x 7" @ 5.9 lbs.

Origin ZIP is 91107. I've been using the ZIP 90210 as a test.

Hi I got the following results when testing the site compared to USPS site calculator https://postcalc.usps.com/

Your site shipping to 90210 $10.40
USPS site - Priority Mail 1-Day™ 10.40

Your site shipping to 33317 $59.35
USPS site - Priority Mail 2-Day 59.35

Hi Sinbad

Understood thank you. However my question specifically was about the Flat Rate Box.

The checkout estimator on my site will currently accept USPS Flat Rate Box as a valid method to ship the 40 x 12 x 7 item, and return a rate. In contrast, https://postcalc.usps.com will recognize the item is too large and not present Flat Rate Box as an option.

Previously and per the ECT manual, setting $uspsprioritycontainer="auto" would cause the my checkout estimator to choose the correct Flat Rate Box for the order dimensions. If the dimensions were over 12 x 12 x 5 it would indicate there was no Flat Rate Box shipping available. That now seems to be not working.

I think the confusion here may be that you have renamed USPS to USPS Flat Rate Box so it appears you are getting a rate for the Flat Rate Box but what is in fact being returned is Priority Mail 1-Day

You can try that here https://postcalc.usps.com/

Enter the zips then click on Calculate price based on Shape and Size

Enter the Pounds and Ounces and then click on Large Package Any dimension over 12 inches

Enter the Dimensions on the next screen and you'll see the rate returned is $10.40 which is what the shipping estimator returns on your site and in my testing here.

I see.... $uspsprioritycontainer="auto" includes all Priority boxes, not just Flat Rate.

Thank You again
