I have loaded all my inventory with Section ID's assigned. However some of them are set as sub categories which I have been informed cannot be assigned inventory items AND be assigned as a Category.

My problem is I am not able to download a CSV file with the (Category Section Deleted) showing next to my inventory items so that I can re-assign them.

I can download an inventory list with Section IDs, which ALL my inventory is assigned so this wont work for figuring out what I need to re-assign.

Is there anyway to download my inventory with the (Category Section Deleted) So I can figure out which inventory items I need to fix?

Thanks

Andy

Hi

I'm afraid there isn't a csv file available with that information.

Hi Andy,

do you think I might be able to create a query in MS Access to refer to the info within the tables of the DB? If so which tables might have the reference to or what triggers the (Section Deleted Message)?

Thanks

I'm really sorry but I can't see a way of doing that either.

Hi Andy,

Thanks again for the info and getting back to me.

Per my earlier comment when I download my inventory csv file ALL my inventory items are assigned a Section ID number.

However, there are still inventory items that state the (Section Deleted) error when viewing under the Product Admin.

I realize I have asked this already... Sorry to re-ask, but I just need to make sure there is no other way to figure out what is an acceptable SectionID number or not? I guess there is no way to know what Section ID is good or bad or acceptable until I edit or try all of them?

I am trying to figure out a way to reconcile the data so I can re-assign working categories to the inventory that has problems in a bulk edit. For some reason even though I have correct Section ID number assigned in the Inventory CSV file it is not reflected as correct when reviewing the Product Admin inventory and I still see the Section Deleted/Red Asterix.

Seems I am having difficulties assigning the same Section ID in a CSV File format.

Thanks again, sorry to re-ask, just a really complicated tedious issue, trying to figure out a way not to have to go through over 2300 items just to find out its incorrect again...

Thanks
J

Hi, I know your post was directed at Andy, but if you just need to know what category numbers can contain products, look no further than the list of categories in your admin.
The ID numbers are shown in parenthesis.

Category Names that are shown in bold are categories which can contain products.

Hi Dave,

The problem is:

I never knew that Categories were restricted as they are. IE: You cant have a sub category under a category that you can add products to. Info not included or known in the documentation. Other sites/Ecommerce software you can add products under ANY Category regardless if its a sub category specified or not. This way, you see ALL products as you go down in each sub category. IE: Fuel System, you see ALL products under ALL the sub categories, Fuel Pumps, Gas Tanks, Carburetors, Gas Caps. THEN selecting the SUB CATEGORY of FUEL PUMPS under FUEL SYSTEM you get JUST the Fuel Pumps. Ecommerce Templates Categories doesn't function this way. You cant see or add ANY products under Categories that are setup as Sub Categories/(Categories can be added).

When I setup my Inventory and Categories I did know this restriction. Not realizing that I cant add products to Categories set as (Sub Categories).

I setup my Categories first, then printed out the CSV file for Categories referring to the Section ID number which refers to ALL Categories SUB Category or NOT. You cant discern from the Section ID if its a Category or Sub Category so there is no way to assign products using Section ID, This is my problem.

Referring to the Admin Categories the Section IDs are in Parenthesis as you have noted. However, this still doesn't provide me a way to assign or correct products to Categories that ACCEPT Products. Again, this is the very problem. I have over two thousand Categories, of these Categories there are Sub Categories that I CANT ADD PRODUCTS to. AND there is no way to figure this out using the CSV Files and referencing the Section ID Number. Fixing this using the standard interface with over three thousand inventory items and over two thousand categories is impossible.

As I stated ALL my inventory IS assigned a Section ID number. I configured all my inventory through a CSV File not the standard interface. When I download the Inventory CSV file ALL my inventory has a section ID assigned. However some of these section ID numbers belong to Categories set to Sub Categories but there is no way to differentiate which ones those are.

Hopefully this explains a little better?
Thanks again for your suggestion, Im still trying to figure out a way to fix this?
J

You can see an example of what David is referring to on our demo store

http://www.ectdemostore.com/vsadmin/admincats.asp

(mystore / changeme)

Each category has a number in parenthesis after it eg Premium CSS (5) where 5 is the section id.

Those in BOLD are categories which can contain products, those not in bold are categories which contain sub-categories.

Does that help at all?

To be fair we do have a pretty comprehensive help section for each of the admin pages and their functions

Hi Andy,

My apologies, I do agree the documentation is thorough where you have noted and I have read it completely. The mistake is mine based upon my assumptions and other commerce software I have worked with. The info I was referring to does not exist by design, so it wouldn't/shouldn't be documented.

I think the easiest way is to simply print the page or grab screen shots of admin page with the inventory listed out and then I can do a comparison in the CSV Files. Then I can figure out if sectionID 5 is a Category I can add product OR a Category I can add Categories. I think this is the only way to figure this out. Once I know the sectionID numbers for just the Categories with Sub Categories I can do a bulk category reassignment within the csv files.

What I would like to be able to do or figure out a way is to have inventory and sub categories populate under the all categories regardless if they are one level or three levels deep. Best example is http://dennis-carpenter.com/trk48-56electrical-wiring/c/520/ . I have our site categorized exactly to this site as these are one of our vendors that sell to us. Looking under the Category Electrical & Wiring you can see all the inventory items under Electrical & Wiring, you can also see the sub categories above. As you click further http://dennis-carpenter.com/trk48-56ignition-system-components/c/529/ under Ignition System Components it further shows all inventory under this category, then http://dennis-carpenter.com/trk48-56distributor/c/533/ Distributor category finally shows just distributors. As I was working reviewing the info from their website I noticed in the URL's the SectionID Numbers.... I actually thought Dennis C was using same shopping cart software... This is what was aiming towards and hopefully will figure a way to accomplish or compromise?

Thanks again for all the help and support.
J
