I have a client (soon to be former client) who is moving to a new host and will be using a new designer. I haven't had this issue before and I want to make sure the transfer goes smoothly.

I plan to make a copy of the two databases (this is a WordPress site) and then a copy of the "full site" via my control panel.

My question is - how will they recreate the ecommerce section? Does the software simply "go with" the site? What about when they need to upgrade to a new version?

Hi

Basically you will back up the store mySQL database and then import it at the new location. There are some simple steps for that here using PHPmyadmin

If they need a new account with a different email address to get updaters, just send us an email with the details.

I used the cpanel to create a backup of the database - will that work?

What file extension do you have - I assume that's ok but best to check.

The new designer is putting the site on HostGator and they are trying to migrate it. Will that work?

Hi JustDucky, Hostgator should be fine the only thing to look out for is the emailfriend.php and cart.php do not show forbidden error when testing if so its just a matter of asking Hostgator to white-list the files.
