I have a client who owns a company selling racing car parts. He sells almost exclusively through his website (using ECT). The problem is that many of his clients see what they want on line and then call him to place their order - then when they are on the phone placing their order they determine that they need additional items (they might be ordering a large engine part and then find that there are a dozen or more small items that they'll need to make that part fit their vehicle). My client has a couple of people that take these phone orders and the issue is that sometimes these additional parts are not already in their database (they might be very small bolts or something or an item that is custom to only that customer's vehicle). They want to be able to login to their site (like a customer would - but of course as the site admin they have more privileges) and take the customer order, add a product (or products) on the fly, go all the way through the checkout process (without having to enter the customer information again in PayPal), and complete the order.
They are very willing to pay for this modification, but are having a lot of trouble finding someone to do it (if it's even possible).
Here is an email I got from them this morning. I gave them the link to the ECT Devlopers page and told them to contact a mod developer to help them. I don't know who they have or have not contacted (I am emailing them this morning and asking that question).
"I’ve decided that the most practical way to accomplish speeding up our checkout process is to modify our ability to check out as if we are the customer, except with a code that will let us add Miscl sku or items as we are filling out the order. This will be better than trying to access PayPal from the back end office. Surely this can be accomplished. Seems like it is similar to us being able to edit parts from the catalog pages while logged into the administrative office. This would solve all our problems. It would be particularly sweet if when we add the part or sku on the fly, that it create that item in the data base. We might even be able to add the weight so the shipping calculator can figure it in with the order ‘s weight. Two of the 4 developers we contacted were : overloaded, out of the country, arrogant - one said they would get back with us , but never did. One was a butt hole. I don’t care if we need to add a password, a code, be logged into the office, or what, but we HAVE to streamline this clumsy checkout process with respect to having to go out, then into paypal, then re enter all the same customer info a 2nd time."
I have two questions here:
1) Is there anyone who can and is willing to take on this job for them?
2) If not, (or in addition) - can anyone help me to explain to my client why this is not possible?
Than you all so much!!
