Recently my favicon.ico is not displaying - I think it may have happened when I updated to v7.0.4 (I use ASP version). The link that Sinbad references is in both of my .dwt files which are uploaded, and I confirmed the favicon.ico is present. I just updated to v7.0.5.
Thanks, Steve

Vince,
This is what shows, not the whole .dwt file obviously: <!-- #BeginTemplate "Templates/project.dwt" --> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <!-- #BeginEditable "doctitle" --> <title>I-CUBE Digital Imaging Consultative Sales</title> <link href="css/ectcart.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link ref="shortcut icon" hrel="https://i-cubeinc.com/favicon.ico" />
Thank you, Steve

The very BEST PNG image to FAVICON.ICO file creator I have found is: > https://convertico.com/Just upload one nice image file named " favicon.png", minimum dimensions 256 x 256 px. The " favicon.ico" created and available to download contains 6 image sizes to suit Desktop PC, iPad, iPhone and Android devices all in the one file: (1) 256 x 256 px (2) 128 x 128 px (3) 64 x 64 px (4) 48 x 48 px (5) 32 x 32 px (6) 16 x 16 px If you upload the " favicon.ico" into the root directory of your website (not a sub-folder) like usual, then you don't necessarily need to have the <link rel="shortcut icon" href=" "> filepath declared in your Template file. Browsers will find and use the appropriate icon size. Although it doesn't hurt to add that line, and most of us do anyway. Gary

Vince, your reply gave a clue so I will have to work on it more. I had only been updating the .dwt files and the page source for default.asp shows something different. I'll go back and read original instructions to clean it up - my quick changes have not fixed it.
Thank you, Steve

I'm still stuck in the corner on this - I removed reference in .dwt files and actual pages and just put favicon.ico in the root, as research indicated modern browsers will display it if found there. No dice. Then put the Sinbad line of code in just the home page (default.asp). Then updated to the explicit web address. Have tried in Chrome, IE, Firefox, doesn't work in any. Have checked page source. Can't find anything that would indicate it should not work. ECT site has them, though it doesn't show in page source. Any suggestion appreciated.

I clicked on this <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" /> which is your home page and it said file not found. Did you upload it to the root?

I did - Filezilla shows it there in addition to my site publishing software. Beyond that the description of clicking on the link I don't understand.
I forgot to mention that I also regenerated it using the tool that Gary referenced and uploaded the new version, no difference. Interestingly - if I double-click the favicon.ico file in Windows Explorer on my local drive it launches Windows Photo Viewer with six pages (256x256 down to 16x16 as Gary listed) but two things that stand out: -the initial 256x256 does not display, image window is blank, other five show the icon -properties shows the file to be 32-bit which might be a problem
Perhaps I should use another program to generate one and see what the properties are, I'll try that.

This link https://i-cubeinc.com/favicon.ico returns file not found. Since PHP is case sensitive, is favicon.ico correct? And personally, I use https://www.favicon-generator.org/ to make favicons.

I'll give it a shot - but one quick point of reference to the topic heading and Marshall's comment, my site is ASP. I did realize this when posting but didn't think it important enough to start a new topic under ASP. I'll try his generator also.
Thank you, Steve

Geez finally made progress on this, though I can't explain the whys and wherefores so it probably won't be of much help to other users. I knew I could access image files in my images directory via a browser, so I copied one of those to the root - "file not found" in browser. So I have moved favicon.ico to the images directory and updated the path in the link on the home page and it works. It must have something to do with the host file manager (wwwroot).
Placing the link in my .dwt files does not work however, so I may have to edit each page. Steve

Steve, I did not realize I had the same problem. Favicon was not showing up, so I checked my pages and it was listed. Tried to see the favicon in the browser and 404, not found. Put it in the images folder and updated my files and it works. For some reason, it doesn't work in the root for me either.
