The product image table is growing exponentially per product and the filters don’t work properly making it very unwieldy and difficult to manage. Our image table currently has 88,000 rows and is doubling each year. More than half the images are identical since at least two static images are allocated against every product and if we had a feature to allocate static images then the rows in the table would drop by more than half.
In addition due to the huge number of images to manage we strictly use the product reference number, product image type, product image number as the product file name. e.g. product 123ABC has a first small image 123ABC-0-0.jpg, first large image 123ABC-1-0.jpg and giant image 123ABC-2-0.jpg
If there was a feature to use a formula such as this then there is no need to use the product image table which would greatly improve the website performance and management of images.
