I recently switched to Microsoft Expression Web and am using FileZilla for file transfers. I am looking for advice on applying Updaters.

Should I download the Updater from ECT, then apply the new files directly from the download to the new server (using FileZilla)?
or
Should I download the Updater from ECT, transfer the new files to my website on my pc (via Expression Web)...then transfer the new files from Expression Web to the server?

Just curious as to how others go about this....

Hi

The way I always do it is download the updater to the desktop and unzip there. Upload updatestore.asp via Filezilla and open that in the browser to check for any messages. If that's ok I run that and upload the rest of the files and folders via Filezilla. I don't use an HTML editor at all in the process.

Forgot to say, I back everything up first of course.

Andy

Thanks Andy! That's they way I applied my last updater. I was about to apply the latest updater and just needed that little bit of reassurance.

Just to add, one thing I do, I have my site defined in expression web, but I keep my vsadmin folder in a different location on my local computer. This keeps expression web from somehow changing the paths in links and no metadata files are created in these folders.
It keeps things clean and less risk of problems.

Over the years, there have been posts from users who accidentally altered the paths in the links in the vsadmin files.

BTW - I always use an FTP program to transfer files to the server. I never had much luck using expression web for that.
