Hi Andy,
It does put an empty alt="" tag in the extra images, probably to satisfy HTML standards, but being able to designate the text in the tag would be nice. In the option admin, I could see where the "option / value" could be used at the alt="" text. As for the product admin, I suspect a field would have to be added for the alt="" text. Otherwise, the parameter <script> var MagicThumbOptions = { captionSource: 'alt' }; </script> is rather useless except for hard coded thumbnails. Besides, having alt="" text is good SEO.
