In a Wordpress installation, I add the code to the header.php for Font Awesome.

With a child theme, there is no header.php - just an functions.php with no head.

Will the header code for Font Awesome be overwritten when the base theme is updated?

Also, if I'm not using 'Use custom layouts defined in vsadmin/includes.php' but using the default detail page layouts, is there a way to add cross sales on the detail page with the widget? (the widget is really neat btw.)

I believe there is a plugin to add Font Awesome to your WordPress site. Can you try searching on the WordPress plugins page?
