Thanks - worked like a champ...

I hate to be a pest...

In the ECT Blackstuff Settings, the Upload Logo will allow you to upload a graphic but it does not "Post" back to the ECT Blackstuff Settings

Is there a fix for this?

Warm Regards,
Ronald Capodagli

I just tested that and it works fine on my set up so not sure why it's not on yours. Perhaps it's a permissions problem - can you manually upload logo.png to

yoursite.com/wp-content/themes/ectwpblackstuff/images/

If you want me to do it, send me on the logo and the FTP details.

I will do some more research and share with you what is going on with this feature -

Quick Question...

As I am trying to make my site look as good as your demo...

How are you displaying the message... Seasonal Sale Now On - 25% Off Everything! ...under the Main menu?

Thanks again for all your help on getting my site up and running...

Warm Regards,
Ronald Capodagli

Hi Ronald, I think you would need to add that (below in green) wordpress admin under editor > page.php or pages.php but Andy can confirm this when he's back in the office/

<div class="body_contain">
<div class="body_contain_top">
<div class="container_16"><div class="grid_16 banner_text">Seasonal Sale Now On - 25% Off Everything!</div></div>
</div>

<div class="container_16 clearfix">

You'll find that in the Black Stuff Settings, labelled "Offer Text".

Thanks - much easier that trying to find where to edit... :-)

A couple more items I could use your help on:

In the header of your demo, you have a fancy "BlackStuff" script title.
My title is a plan "Hardwood Sound" text title. How to I mimic the title in your demo?

Also, how do I change the images in the slider and the text below..

Again, thanks for your help on all this...

Warm Regards,
Ronald Capodagli

The easiest way to change the slider images is to upload images with the same name.

images/home.jpg
images/home1.jpg
images/home2.jpg

1,121px × 503px

The text can be changed going to

Appearance > Editor > Home Page Page Template (page-home.php)

There's a png file of the logo in the theme images/extras folder

The fonts are Edwardian Script ITC and Calisto MT

Thanks -

So, just to verify, am I correct to say that the Home page can only be modified through the "code"?

And that the Home page cannot be changed through the WYSIWYG WordPress GUI editor?

I have tried to use the GUI but with no success...

I only ask just in case I am missing something in the documentation I have read...

I am now wanting to change some of the other sections of the Home page and am struggling a bit on my approach - PHP is not my strongest language... :-)

Warm Regards,
Ronald Capodagli

Hi Ronald, it depends on which changes you want to make example the products on the home page can be changed through the Home Page plug-in while other changes would have to be through the code under Appearances > Editor. If you let us know what you want to change we can let you know the best way to go about it.

I appreciate the direction and the advice...

With respect to the Home page changes or fixes for ...

1) The hyperlinks all reference hardwoodsound.com\#

2) Section Title, Content, Images, Language and Hyper-Links
- New This Month
- Our Best Sellers
- About this Responsive...
- Our Brands

My epiphany... [blue]Looking into what I want to modify a little closer, I think I now understand, these edits I want to make would impact the "parent" theme, right?
So, I really need to think about creating a "child" theme to modify in lieu of the parent theme.

With this parent to child theme approach, will modifying the child (in lieu of the parent) mess up how things work?

Ronald Capodagli

Hi Ronald, those items would need to be edited in WP > Appearance >Editor > page-home.php you can use plug-ins here to display products / categories on the home page https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/wordpress/wp-plugins.asp

Thanks for all of the advise... I think I am now over the "sticker shock" that the WordPress template was not as "turn-key" as my ASP template...

Here are two plug-ins I have found to be extremely useful in editing the code and accessing the folders within my theme...

> Advance Code Editor - I use this to search to edit the components of the theme
> WP File Manager - I use this to find and replace many of the "stock" images with my own
> MS Expression Web 4 (Free) - I use this to bring up my old site to cut and paste content from

And one I am just now trying out, Yellow Pencil - I am using this to "visually" update the "styles" of the pages

I have found these tools take the edge off in customizing my theme/site - I hope others who are like me and find themselves PHP and CSS challenged, find these Plug-Ins useful.

After I get the theme/site where I want it - my next step is to make a child out of it before going forward with my remaining customization.

Word of caution, as it was my choice to modify the parent theme - I also understand that I will no longer be able to accept "theme" updates from ECT, not without loosing all of my changes to my existing theme...

ECT, how will changes be arriving for my WordPress template? Will my installed theme ever be in jeopardy?

Warm Regards,
Ronald Capodagli

Hi Ronald

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll have a look at those over the weekend. We won't be issuing theme updates, only store updates so your frontend won't be troubled by those.
